The major organs of the female reproductive system are the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, genitalia, and the mammary glands.
In the ovaries there are sac like structures called ovarian follicles which contain the developing eggs. The fallopian tubes connect the ovaries to the uterus. The uterus is the hollow, muscular chamber. The vagina is the muscular tube that extends to the genitalia. The genitalia which contains the vulva includes the mons pubis, labia majora and minora, clitoris, and greater vestibular glands. The mammary glands only function in the breasts of women. The glands play an important role in providing nourishment for a newborn baby. The major reproductive organ of the male is the testes. Their function is to produce sperm. The ducts (which contain the epididymis, ductus deferens, ejaculatory duct, and urethra) carry to sperm to the exterior of the body. The accessory glands (which contain the seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and bulbourethral glands) produce secretions that combine with sperm to create semen. The scrotum and the penis are the external sex organs of the male.
